NHM WB CHO Syllabus, Exam Pattern, Eligibility
106 topics across 3 subjects. Every question carries a written explanation.
West Bengal does not hold one state-wide CHO exam. Community Health Officers are hired on contract under the National Health Mission by each district's Chief Medical Officer of Health (CMOH) through a District Level Selection Committee. A candidate applies to a district, and the notice, vacancies and dates differ from one district to the next.
As at 16 October 2026 the districts are in a reset. After a Mission Director memo dated 17 September 2026 and a state notification on reservation, several CMOH offices (Birbhum, Cooch Behar, Purulia, Purba Bardhaman, Howrah, Jhargram, South 24 Parganas) cancelled their ongoing NHM recruitments and panels, saying fresh notices will follow. Jhargram's CHO engagement order of 1 October 2026 shows what a CHO post looks like in practice.

NHM WB CHO Details
Exam Pattern
There is no state pattern. Each district sets its own method and publishes it in its own notice. Read the notice of the district you are applying to.
Syllabus
No state syllabus is published. If a district holds a test, its own notice is the only guide.
Eligibility Criteria
The Jhargram order engaged B.Sc Nursing candidates as CHOs. The qualification, age limit, nursing council registration and residence rules are set in each district's notice, so read the one you are applying under.
Selection Process
Selection is by the district committee headed by the District Magistrate. The exact stages vary by district and the notice names them. The reservation policy notified in August 2026 applies to the fresh round.
Salary
Jhargram's order of 1 October 2026 gives a consolidated Rs 20,000 a month plus a performance-linked incentive of up to Rs 5,000. The engagement runs to 31 March 2027 and is renewed each year on performance, state approval and the Record of Proceedings. Either side can end it with one month's notice.
How to Apply
Applications go to the district CMOH office named in the notice, in the manner it states. There is no common form or portal.
Important Dates
No CHO notice is open anywhere in the state as at 16 October 2026. Districts said fresh notices would follow the 17 September memo but gave no dates. Watch the Recruitments page of the West Bengal Health portal.
Admit Card
Admit cards, if the district holds a test, come from that district's CMOH office. Nothing is available now.
Result
Results, panels and engagement orders are posted on the portal's Recruitments page by the district, as Jhargram's was.
Cut Off
No cut-offs are published for NHM West Bengal CHO recruitment.
Preparation Tips
Pick your district first and watch for its notice. Keep your nursing council registration and certificates in order, since each district asks for its own documents.
