OSSC BSSO Exam Pattern, Eligibility, Important Dates
173 topics across 6 subjects. Every question carries a written explanation.
The Block Social Security Officer works for the Department of Social Security and Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (SSEPD) in a block office. OSSC recruits for the post.
It used to have its own advertisement: Advt. No. 5146 of August 2022 took 94 officers as contractual initial appointees. In the latest cycle the post sits inside the Combined Graduate Level exam, CGLRE-2025 (Advt. No. 5751, 12 December 2025), with 146 vacancies, 48 reserved for women. That cycle is at certificate verification as of October 2026.

OSSC BSSO Details
Exam Pattern
Under CGLRE-2025: a 150 mark prelim, a Main exam of two papers (200 marks; Language, then General Studies), a qualifying Computer Skill Test (BSSO is one of the posts that has it), then certificate verification. There is no mathematics test for this post; that is for Auditors only.
The 2022 recruitment was a separate process with its own stages; the advertisement is on the OSSC site.
Eligibility Criteria
A bachelor's degree in any discipline from a recognised university and proficiency in computer use (internet, e-mail, word processing, data analysis, presentation). In the 2025 advertisement the age limit is 21 to 42 years on 01.01.2025, with five years more for SEBC, SC, ST and women, ten for PwD. Odia must be read, written and spoken.
Salary
CGLRE-2025 lists BSSO as Group-B, Level 9, Cell 1 of ORSP 2017, a regular post. The 2022 round offered contractual appointment at a consolidated ₹25,300 a month for the first year.
How to Apply
Online on the OSSC portal. Under CGLRE the fee is ₹500 (none for SC, ST and PwD) and is refunded to those who appear in the first stage. A BSSO aspirant fills the general CGL form and gives the post in the preference list.
