Eligibility Criteria
Qualification and registration
Annexure-A gives two routes, both needing the same registration:
- 10+2 in Science or equivalent, with a Diploma in Pharmacy from a recognised institution, and registered as a Pharmacist under the Pharmacy Act, 1948; or
- B.Pharm from a recognised University or equivalent, and registered as a Pharmacist under the Pharmacy Act, 1948.
Both must be held on the closing date, 18 September 2025 (as revised). If you're waiting for your final result, you can't apply.
Age as on 1 January 2026: 20 to 35
| Community | Date of birth not earlier than | Not born after |
|---|---|---|
| UR and EWS | 2 January 1991 | 1 January 2006 |
| OBC (Non-Creamy Layer) | 2 January 1988 | |
| SC and ST | 2 January 1986 |
Those dates already include the community relaxation. Only Nursing Superintendent (20 to 40) has a wider band in this notice.
Further relaxation
| Category | Community | Relaxation or maximum upper age |
|---|---|---|
| SC and ST | 5 years | |
| OBC (Non-Creamy Layer) | 3 years | |
| Ex-servicemen with at least six months continuous service after attestation | UR and EWS | 3 years, after deducting the length of service from the age |
| OBC (NCL) | 6 years, after the same deduction | |
| SC and ST | 8 years, after the same deduction | |
| Persons with Benchmark Disabilities | UR and EWS | 10 years |
| OBC (NCL) | 13 years | |
| SC and ST | 15 years | |
| Serving Group C and erstwhile Group D railway staff with at least 3 years service, and substitutes with at least 3 years service, continuous or in broken spells | UR and EWS | up to 40 years of age |
| OBC (NCL) | up to 43 years of age | |
| SC and ST | up to 45 years of age | |
| Candidates working in quasi-administrative offices of the railway organisation such as railway canteens, co-operative societies and institutes | up to the length of service rendered, or 5 years, whichever is less | |
| Female candidates who are widowed, divorced or judicially separated from their husband but not remarried | UR and EWS | up to 35 years of age |
| OBC (NCL) | up to 38 years of age | |
| SC and ST | up to 40 years of age |
- If you qualify on more than one ground you get the biggest relaxation, not the sum.
- SC, ST and OBC-NCL candidates applying against UR vacancies get no age relaxation.
- A PwBD candidate against a UR vacancy gets only the PwBD (UR) relaxation.
- Your date of birth must match your Matriculation, SSLC or equivalent certificate. Any difference means disqualification.
Medical standard C2
Pharmacist is the only C2 post in the notice (three are C1, three B1). If you're found medically unfit for the post you opted for, you get no alternative appointment, so check the standard before applying.
Disability suitability
| Category | Identified as suitable |
|---|---|
| Visual impairment | No |
| Hearing impairment | D, HH |
| Locomotor disability | OA, OL, OAL, LC, DW, AAV, and SD or SI without neurological or limb dysfunction |
| Other disability | No |
| Multiple disabilities | Yes |
The locomotor list is the widest of the seven posts. Scribe-eligible candidates get 120 minutes instead of 90.
Eligibility is only checked at DV
The RRB doesn't scrutinise applications, so candidature is provisional. Certificates for qualification, age, caste and category are checked at Document Verification; anything not substantiated, or found false at any stage or even later, means rejection. The crucial date for every category claim (SC, ST, OBC, EWS, EBC, fee concession, age relaxation) is 18 September 2025.
Selection Process
- Single stage Computer Based Test, 100 questions in 90 minutes.
- Document Verification for candidates equal to the number of vacancies.
- Medical examination at a nominated Railway Hospital, standard C2.
- Empanelment and zone allotment.
No interview, no skill test. Merit is the CBT score alone, subject to the qualifying marks. Equal marks go to the older candidate.
DV at 1:1, no standby list
The CEN's words: candidates equal to the number of vacancies will be called for document verification in the main list = 1:1 = No Standby list. Most recruitments call two or three times the vacancies. Here, when someone is rejected, the Board issues a further notice calling additional candidates down the merit list.
Bring original certificates. No extra time is given; if you can't produce originals on the day, your candidature can be forfeited.
At RRB Chennai, eight were empanelled for Pharmacist in the first panel of 6 August 2026, and the same notice called additional candidates for DV and medical on 21 August 2026. Rejections were for absence at DV, absence at the medical, being medically unfit for the preferred post, or not producing documents supporting the application.
The medical
- At a nominated Railway Hospital or Health Unit, the day after DV, often in another city.
- Plan for more than three to four days for DV and medical together.
- Bring six passport size colour photographs.
- The medical fee is ₹24 only. If a test (CT scan, ultrasound, a check for refractive eye surgery) isn't available at the Railway Hospital, you pay the outside lab directly.
Appointment also depends on verification of certificates, antecedents and character.
Zone allotment
The RRB allots a zone or production unit by your option, subject to merit, medical standard and vacancies. Once you're empanelled for one choice, you lose the right to be considered for your next preference. The Boards can also allot a zone you didn't opt for in the administrative interest.
RRBs only recommend names; the offer of appointment comes from the Railway Administration. Using candidates further down the merit list for shortfalls gives them no vested right.
Beware of touts promising jobs for money. Selection is on CBT merit only. Rely only on the official RRB websites.
Salary
| Item | What the CEN says |
|---|---|
| Designation | Pharmacist (Entry Grade) |
| Pay Level in the 7th CPC | Level-5 |
| Initial pay | ₹29,200 |
₹29,200 is the first cell of Level-5, not take-home pay. On top come Dearness Allowance, House Rent Allowance by city class, Transport Allowance and the allowances for railway health staff. NPS contributions and health scheme subscriptions are deducted.
You'll work in Railway hospitals and health units of the Zonal Railways and Production Units. Annexure-B of the CEN gives the zone-wise split of the 105 posts.
D.Pharm and B.Pharm holders enter at the same Level-5.
How to Apply
One RRB, one application
- Choose only one RRB, then rank zones and the posts you're eligible for. You're considered only for what you opt for; no option for a post counts as unwillingness. Options are final.
- More than one application, to any RRB, gets all of them rejected, with disqualification and debarment.
- Apply on rrbapply.gov.in. Your mobile number and email can't be changed once the account exists; if you have an account from an earlier RRB CEN, use it.
- Verify through DigiLocker or Aadhaar. Applicants using other photo IDs face much stricter scrutiny at every stage.
- Nothing can be corrected after submission except in the modification window, and even then not the Create an Account details or chosen RRB.
Fee
| Category | Fee | Refund |
|---|---|---|
| All candidates other than those below | ₹500 | ₹400 refunded, less bank charges, on appearing in the CBT |
| SC, ST, ex-servicemen, PwBD, female, transgender, Minorities and the Economically Backward Class | ₹250 | The whole ₹250 refunded, less bank charges, on the same condition |
Only those who sit the CBT get a refund. Pay online only (net banking, card, UPI). No fee, no application.
- Minorities: Muslims, Christians, Sikhs, Buddhists, Jains and Zoroastrians (Parsis). Bring an affidavit on non-judicial stamp paper naming your community to DV.
- Economically Backward Class: family income below ₹50,000 a year, shown by an EBC certificate, BPL card, Izzat MST or a Central Government poverty programme certificate, issued on or before the closing date. EBC is not OBC or EWS.
Read the detailed CEN itself, especially Annexure-A (post parameters) and Annexure-B (vacancies by RRB and zone), before applying. Scribe undertakings are at Annexures V(D) to V(G).
Participating Institutes
The employer is the Indian Railways, through its hospitals and health units; the recruiter is the Railway Recruitment Boards under the Ministry of Railways. CEN 03/2025 covers seven paramedical posts:
| Cat. No. | Post | Pay Level | Initial pay | Medical | Age as on 1 Jan 2026 | Vacancies |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Nursing Superintendent | 7 | ₹44,900 | C1 | 20 to 40 | 272 |
| 2 | Dialysis Technician | 6 | ₹35,400 | B1 | 20 to 33 | 4 |
| 3 | Health and Malaria Inspector Grade II | 6 | ₹35,400 | C1 | 18 to 33 | 33 |
| 4 | Pharmacist (Entry Grade) | 5 | ₹29,200 | C2 | 20 to 35 | 105 |

| 7 | Laboratory Assistant Grade II | 3 | ₹21,700 | B1 | 18 to 33 | 12 |
| Grand total, all RRBs | 434 | |||||
Pharmacist is 105 of 434, second to Nursing Superintendent's 272; together they're 87 per cent of the notice, leaving 57 for the other five. The CEN says vacancies may go up or down.
RRB Chennai's first panel (6 August 2026), sent to the Principal Chief Personnel Officer, Southern Railway, Chennai: Nursing Superintendent 32, Health and Malaria Inspector Grade II 6, Pharmacist 8, Laboratory Assistant Grade II 2, and one each for Dialysis Technician, Radiographer and ECG Technician.
Exam Centres
The CBT ran on 11, 12 and 13 March 2026. The schedule notice of 7 January 2026 had said 10 to 12 March; the revised notice of 25 February 2026 moved it. Dates, times and venues are fixed by the RRB, and postponement or change of centre isn't allowed.
At RRB Chennai, DV was at the Board's own office on 22 and 23 June 2026 (block date 8 July 2026), with a further round on 21 August 2026. The medical follows at a Railway Hospital the next day.

Corrigendum-1 moved the closing and qualification date ten days but left the age date at 1 January 2026. The whole cycle took about twelve months, seven of them between closing date and exam. The next paramedical CEN will appear on rrb.indianrailways.gov.in and in Employment News; this one was announced in late July.
Admit Card
- The exam city and date link (with the SC/ST travel authority) opens 10 days before your exam.
- E-call letters are downloadable about 4 days before. Follow their instructions exactly, or risk cancellation.
At the centre
- Two original identity documents, one the same photo ID named in your application, or you won't be let in.
- Your original Aadhaar card, with Aadhaar unlocked in UIDAI: biometric authentication is done before entry.
- No calculators or electronic gadgets. A phone or Bluetooth device in working or switched off mode means cancellation, debarment from RRB exams and possible legal action.
For DV
Your Pharmacy diploma or degree, your Pharmacy Act registration certificate, your Matriculation certificate (the only accepted proof of date of birth), originals of community and category certificates, and the minority affidavit or EBC document if you used a fee concession.
Result
Merit is the CBT score alone. Each Board publishes its own results under Exam Results, Document Verification and Selection List on its website (links from rrb.indianrailways.gov.in).
RRB Chennai, for this cycle: the DV cut-off and shortlist on 30 May 2026, the DV schedule on 5 June, and the empanelment notice on 6 August 2026, with the empanelment cut-off, rejections and additional candidates. Further action on appointment is taken by Southern Railway.
Cut Off
Both tables are RRB Chennai (Southern Railway), out of 100. Every Board publishes its own and they differ.
| Category | Qualifying floor | Shortlisted for DV, 30 May 2026 | Empanelled, 6 August 2026 |
|---|---|---|---|
| UR | 40 | 80.35087 | 80.35087 |
| SC | 30 | 73.56099 | 78.94737 |
| ST | 25 | 63.44274 | 63.44274 |
| OBC | 30 | 79.21604 | 79.21604 |
| EWS | 40 | no figure published | |
| Ex-servicemen | own community | 46.31579 | no figure published |
| Visually impaired (regular) | 58.11320 | no figure published | |
The real bar was roughly double the floor for UR and two and a half times it for the reserved categories. Small horizontal pools (ex-servicemen 46.32, visually impaired 58.11) sit much lower. The figures run to five decimals because the three-day CBT was normalised across shifts.

Preparation Tips
- Put the hours into pharmacy. It's 70 of 100 marks; the three general subjects share 30. General Science is 10th standard and you already know it.
- D.Pharm holders: expect new ground. Annexure-C includes degree subjects such as Novel Drug Delivery System, Computer Aided Drug Design, Advanced Instrumentation Techniques, Pharmacovigilance, Pharmaceutical Regulatory Science, Biostatistics and Research Methodology, Cosmetic Science, and Dietary Supplements and Nutraceuticals.
- Don't skip the short subjects. Pharmaceutical Jurisprudence, Pharmacy Practice, Social and Preventive Pharmacy and Pharmacovigilance are quick to learn and the law the job runs on.
- Aim for the eighties, not forty. The core volume is pharmacology, pharmaceutics, pharmaceutical chemistry, pharmacognosy and analysis.
- Guess sparingly. Three wrong answers cancel one right one. At a cut-off near 80 you can afford roughly fifteen wrong answers in a hundred.
- Practise at 54 seconds a question with the one-third penalty applied.
- Do the official mock. It runs on the real CBT interface; this cycle's went up on 2 March 2026 for an 11 March exam.
- Pick the language you think in. Seeing English alongside helps with awkward technical terms.
- Check practice material against this CEN: professional ability should be 70 marks (50 means it was written for Isolated Categories), the penalty one third (not 0.25), and the syllabus should reach degree-level subjects. The general 30 marks are shared with the other six posts in this notice, so their general material works too.
Sample Papers
The RRBs don't keep a past-paper archive for this post, and the CEN itself provides no answer key. Each Board's site has an Objection Tracker heading under CEN 03/2025, which is where any post-exam answer key or objection link appears, some time after the CBT (held in March in this cycle).
The closest thing to a sample paper is the official mock test, posted under Mock Test Link on the RRB sites about a week before the exam.
