Rajasthan High Court District Judge Exam Pattern
178 topics across 15 subjects. Every question carries a written explanation.
The District Judge Cadre exam is the Rajasthan High Court's direct recruitment of practising advocates as District Judges, under the Rajasthan Judicial Service Rules, 2010. It's separate from the Civil Judge exam: you need seven years at the Bar, and the age band is 35 to 45.
The last cycle, District Judge Cadre 2024, was notified on 9 July 2024 for 95 posts, 31 of them backlog vacancies reserved for SC and ST. It ran through a preliminary, a main exam and an interview, and the final result of 18 May 2025 selected one candidate. Only one roll number had cleared the main exam for interview.
The High Court runs this recruitment every few years (2015, 2017, 2018, 2020, 2024). Nothing has been notified since 2024; watch the Recruitment page.

Exam Pattern
The scheme is Rule 40 and Schedule VII of the 2010 Rules. The syllabus is in Schedules VIII (preliminary) and IX (main), not in the notification itself.
| Stage | What it is | Counts in merit |
|---|---|---|
| Preliminary | Objective, OMR, no negative marking. Qualify with 45% (40% for SC, ST and PwBD) | No |
| Main | Four written papers of 3 hours each, held over two days | Yes |
| Interview | Personal interview | Yes |
Merit is out of 450 (main plus interview). To be recommended you need at least 193.5, or 176 for SC, ST and PwBD. Ties go to the higher interview mark, then to the earlier enrolment as an advocate.
In 2024 the one selected candidate scored 46, 45, 45 and 40.5 in Papers I to IV, 25 at interview, 201.5 in all (final result).
Eligibility Criteria
- Indian citizen.
- LL.B. (Professional) from a university recognised under the Advocates Act, 1961.
- At least seven years as an Advocate on the last date for applying (9 August 2024 last time).
- Thorough knowledge of Hindi in Devanagari script and of Rajasthani dialects and social customs.
- Age 35 to 45 on 1 January following the closing date (1 January 2025 for 2024). Five years' relaxation for SC, ST, OBC (non-creamy), MBC (non-creamy), EWS and women, only one of these; another five for persons with benchmark disabilities. Because the previous notification was in 2021, candidates eligible on 1 January 2023 or 2024 were also allowed.
With the form you give particulars of 10 judgments from the past seven years in cases you argued yourself (final orders only, not bail, interlocutory or compromise orders), and a certificate of character and length of practice from the District Judge where you practise, or the Registrar of the High Court or Supreme Court.
Disqualifications include more than one living spouse, dismissal from service, conviction for moral turpitude, professional misconduct under the Advocates Act, more than two children after 19 January 2010, and taking dowry.
Salary
Pay scale ₹1,44,840 to ₹1,94,660 (Pay Matrix J-5) under the 2010 Rules, as notified in 2024. That's the judicial pay structure, not a state civil service level.
How to Apply
Apply online through the High Court's portal. Fee as of 2024:
| Category | Fee |
|---|---|
| General, creamy-layer OBC and MBC, and all applicants from other states | ₹1,500 |
| Rajasthan OBC-NCL, MBC-NCL and EWS | ₹1,250 |
| Rajasthan SC and ST, and PwBD | ₹1,000 |
Payment is by e-Mitra, CSC, net banking or card, and isn't refunded. Reservation is only for bona fide Rajasthan residents; women from other states who settled in Rajasthan by marriage apply as General. In 2024 the High Court deleted duplicate forms and asked for clearer photo and ID uploads, so get those right the first time.

Result
All notices for a cycle, including answer keys, rejection lists, results and statements of marks, are on that year's page (2024). The preliminary and main results list roll numbers only; marks come later in separate statements.
Cut Off
There's no published cut-off beyond the rule minimums: 45% (40% reserved) in the preliminary, and 193.5 or 176 out of 450 for the final list. In 2024 those minimums were the real barrier. Only one of 95 posts was filled.
Preparation Tips
- Read Schedules VIII and IX of the Rajasthan Judicial Service Rules for the syllabus; the notification only refers to them.
- Keep certified copies of your 10 judgments ready before you apply. They're needed before the main exam.
- The main exam is four 3-hour written papers. Practise long answers and judgment writing under time.
- The High Court's previous papers page has past question papers.
