RSMSSB Stenographer Syllabus, Exam Pattern, Eligibility
173 topics across 6 subjects. Every question carries a written explanation.
RSSB recruits Stenographers (shighralipik) for the Rajasthan Government Secretariat in Jaipur under the Rajasthan Secretariat Ministerial Service Rules, 1970. It runs this together with Personal Assistant Grade II, which is the same job in the state's subordinate offices: one written exam, one shorthand test, then allotment by merit and your preference.
The last cycle was Advt. 07/2024 of 26 February 2024, with 194 Stenographer posts in the Secretariat, all non-scheduled area. Half of them (97) were reserved for serving Secretariat clerks. The written exam was on 5 October 2024, the shorthand test finally on 29 June 2025 after a cancelled first attempt, and the final result on 15 August 2026, when 174 Stenographers were selected; 11 more followed on 28 September 2026.
No new advertisement has been issued since. The previous one before 2024 was Stenographer 2018.

Exam Pattern
Phase I: written, OMR
| Paper | Subjects | Marks | Time |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | General knowledge and everyday science (50), Rajasthan general knowledge (50) | 100 | 3 hours |
| 2 | General Hindi and General English, 75 questions each | 100 | 3 hours |
150 questions per paper at Class 10 level. The scheme says there is no negative marking, but the OMR rules printed in the same advertisement deduct one third of a question's marks if none of the five bubbles (A to E) is filled, and disqualify anyone who leaves more than 10% of questions unmarked. Fill E for every question you skip.
Phase II: shorthand on computer (choose one language)
| Option | Dictation | Transcription on computer | Marks |
|---|---|---|---|
| English | 10 min at 100 wpm | 60 min | 100 |
| Hindi | 10 min at 100 wpm | 70 min | 100 |
Phase I needs 40% in each paper, and the Board calls up to 15 times the vacancies to Phase II. In Phase II more than 20% mistakes rules you out, with 5% extra allowance for SC and ST. Final merit is Phase I plus Phase II, out of 300.

Rajasthan: geography and resources, agriculture, industry and welfare schemes, history from ancient times to integration, and art, literature, music, fairs, forts and painting styles.

Preparation Tips
- Shorthand decides this exam. Written cut-offs only get you into Phase II; reaching 100 wpm with transcription errors under 20% is the real filter.
- Practise transcribing on a computer, not on paper, within 60 minutes (English) or 70 (Hindi).
- Half of Paper 1 is Rajasthan GK. Prepare it as carefully as Hindi and English.
- Old RSSB papers are on the Old Papers page.
