TCIL Syllabus, Exam Pattern, Eligibility, Important Dates
158 topics across 5 subjects. Every question carries a written explanation.
TCIL, Telecommunications Consultants India Limited, is a Government of India enterprise under the Department of Telecommunications. It does telecom, IT and civil consultancy and projects in India and abroad, including Kuwait, Oman, Saudi Arabia, Mauritius and Nepal, and is ISO 9001:2015 certified.
There's no "TCIL exam". TCIL hires for particular projects as they come up, mostly by shortlisting on qualification and experience and then an interview. In its own words, final selection is "on merit based on educational qualification, experience, followed by Interview", and the mode "may be changed subject to number of applications received". A written or skill test happens only if the advertisement says so.

Exam Pattern
Most TCIL recruitment has no exam. The routes it uses:
| Route | Used for | What decides it |
|---|---|---|
| Shortlist, then interview | Project engineer, specialist and consultant posts | Qualification and experience, then a technical interview |
| Merit list, then interview at joining | Apprenticeships | Academic merit, then interview and certificate check |
| Skill or written test | Only where the advertisement says so | As stated in that advertisement |
| Walk-in | Some project and specialist needs | Assessment at the venue |
The mode can change if many people apply, and TCIL isn't bound to call everyone who's eligible.
Syllabus
TCIL doesn't publish a syllabus, because it has no standing exam. Where a test or technical interview applies, it's pitched at the post: telecom and electronics (including 4G and 5G), computer science and networking, civil or electrical engineering, or finance, HR, law and procurement for functional roles.
The best guide is TCIL's current work. In 2026 it was recruiting for the 100 5G Use Case Labs Project, and its services on tcil.net.in cover telecom, IT, training, e-procurement, e-waste, IPv6 and civil works.
Eligibility Criteria
Each advertisement sets its own qualification, experience and age rules. The usual shapes:
| Post | Typical requirement |
|---|---|
| Contractual project engineer or specialist | Degree in Electronics, Telecom, CS, IT, Electrical or Civil, plus stated experience |
| Graduate Engineer apprentice | B.E. or B.Tech in the named branch (Electronics or Civil in September 2026) |
| Technician Diploma apprentice | Three-year diploma (Electronics, Civil, CS or IT in September 2026) |
| Legal apprentice | Three-year LLB or five-year integrated law degree approved by the Bar Council of India |
| Senior management, E-7 to E-9 | Long IT and telecom experience; regular, contract or deputation |
- Experience counts only from the date you got the minimum qualification, and only if full-time.
- Apprenticeships are under the Apprentices Act 1961. If you're doing or have done an apprenticeship elsewhere, you can't apply.
- TCIL can reject an application without giving a reason and disqualify at any stage.
Selection Process
- Apply online on tcil.net.in with documents uploaded.
- Shortlisting on qualification and experience.
- Skill test or interview, called by email or SMS. Bring all originals and two passport photos.
- Offer by email, collected at TCIL. Miss the joining deadline, for any reason, and you can't join.
- Police clearance and medical fitness are checked after joining.
One application per position. The 2026 contractual advertisement also needs a notarised undertaking on ₹100 stamp paper. No travel or daily allowance is paid for the test, interview or joining.
For apprenticeships, selection is provisional on merit, then final after interview and certificate checks at joining.
Salary
| Basis | Pay | Example, 2026 |
|---|---|---|
| Contractual project role | Consolidated monthly pay, no separate allowances | ₹70,000 a month, 100 5G Use Case Labs Project |
| Apprenticeship | Monthly stipend | ₹12,300 Graduate Engineer or Legal; ₹10,900 Technician Diploma |
| Regular and senior posts | PSU executive grades E-1 to E-9 with allowances | Advertised occasionally, most recently E-7 to E-9 |
Contract terms (from the 5G Use Case Labs advertisement)
- Minimum 12 months, renewed yearly until the project ends, with quarterly performance reviews.
- Annual increment of 5% to 10% under NITI Aayog guidelines.
- No accommodation, HRA or medical cover. 12 days casual leave a year plus central government holidays.
- No travel allowance for joining or leaving; paid only when TCIL sends you on official work.
- One month's notice either side.
- No claim to a TCIL appointment during or after the contract, and no right to regularisation.
Apprenticeships are one year at TCIL Bhawan, New Delhi.
How to Apply
Apply on tcil.net.in under Career, Current Opening. No other mode is accepted, though some older advertisements used an offline form posted with the notice. Forms open on the date the advertisement gives.
Upload your Aadhaar, degree or diploma certificate, resume and the advertisement's own annexure (for the 2026 contract posts, the notarised undertaking on ₹100 stamp paper).
Your details are final once submitted. There's no correction window, so enter your name exactly as on your matriculation certificate.
Windows run two to three weeks. Corrigenda and extensions appear only in the Careers section, "no separate notification shall be issued in any other media", so check it while your application is live.
Participating Institutes
None. You're engaged by TCIL itself, for the project or post you applied to. Overseas project offices such as the TCIL Kuwait Projects Office advertise for their own staff on their own terms. Domestic contract roles in 2026 were based in Delhi with travel to sites, and apprenticeships at TCIL Bhawan, New Delhi. TCIL's joint ventures and subsidiaries, listed on tcil.net.in, recruit separately.
Exam Centres
There's usually no exam centre. Interviews and any tests are held where TCIL says, most often TCIL Bhawan, New Delhi, or the recruiting office, and you're told by email or SMS. Overseas posts are handled by that project office. For a walk-in, the venue and time are in the notice and everything happens on the day.
Bring all originals and two passport photos. Travel is at your own cost.
Important Dates
TCIL has no annual calendar. It advertises as projects come up, with windows of two to three weeks. Check Current Opening on tcil.net.in regularly. The live advertisements on 8 September 2026 and their closing dates are in the overview.
Past advertisements are in the career archive on the same site, which shows what kinds of post come round again.
Admit Card
TCIL doesn't issue admit cards. You're called to a test or interview by email or SMS at the contact details you registered, so keep them active and check spam. Print the call letter and bring it with every original certificate and two passport photos. Any corrigendum or extension is posted only on the Careers page of tcil.net.in.
Result
TCIL doesn't publish merit lists or scorecards. If you're selected, you get an email asking you to collect the offer at TCIL. Join within the stated time; police and medical checks follow after joining.
Contract staff are reviewed quarterly and can be released for not completing assigned work, poor quality, missed milestones or lack of integrity. Advertisements and corrigenda are on tcil.net.in, and TCIL's decision is final.
Cut Off
TCIL publishes no cut-off marks, because there's no common exam. The bar is the advertisement's eligibility, your full-time experience counted from your qualifying date, and TCIL's shortlisting. It can also change the number of posts or cancel a recruitment at any stage.
Preparation Tips
- Check the mode of selection first. Walk-in, interview only or a test: preparing for the wrong one is the common mistake.
- Your application is the test. Most posts are decided on qualification and experience, so document both carefully.
- Count your experience TCIL's way: full-time, from the date you got the minimum qualification.
- Get it right first time. There's no correction window.
- Book the notary early if the advertisement needs an undertaking.
- Read up on live projects before the interview. In 2026 that meant 5G use cases.
- Decide on the contract terms before applying. No HRA or medical cover and no path to a permanent post suits some people and not others.
- Apprenticeships are a real way in, decided on marks, but only if you haven't done one before.
Sample Papers
No sample papers or previous year papers are available for TCIL. It has no standing exam, and any test it sets is written for that one requirement.
The advertisement itself is the specification. Current ones are under Current Opening on tcil.net.in, and older ones in the career archive there.
