Exam Pattern
Preliminary Written Test. One 3-hour paper of 200 marks: 100 questions on Arithmetic and Reasoning, 100 on General Studies. It is objective, 20 per cent of the marks are cut for a wrong answer, and the pass marks are 30% (OC and EWS), 25% (BC) and 20% (SC, ST, ex-servicemen). It only screens.
Final Written Examination. Four 3-hour papers.
| Paper | Subject | Codes 11, 17, 18, 19 | Codes 12 to 14, 16 |
|---|---|---|---|
| I | English: 25 objective, 75 descriptive | 100 | 100 |
| II | Telugu or Urdu: 25 objective, 75 descriptive | 100 | 100 |
| III | Arithmetic and Reasoning, 200 questions | 200 | 100 |
| IV | General Studies, 200 questions | 200 | 100 |
Papers I and II are qualifying only. Fall short in either and you are out, whatever you scored in III and IV. Wrong answers in their objective parts cost 25 per cent of the marks. Pass marks in each paper are 40% for OC and EWS, 35% for BC and 30% for SC, ST and ex-servicemen.
Syllabus
Arithmetic: number system, simple and compound interest, ratio and proportion, average, percentage, profit and loss, time and work, wages, time and distance, clocks and calendars, partnership, mensuration. Reasoning: verbal and non-verbal, analogies, similarities and differences, spatial visualisation and orientation, problem solving, judgment, decision making, visual memory.
General Studies: general science and current developments in science and technology; national and international current events; Indian history with the freedom movement; geography; Indian polity and economy; and the Telangana movement and state formation, from 1948 to 2014. The final paper also has a personality section on ethics, gender sensitivity, social awareness and emotional intelligence. Papers I and II are English and Telugu or Urdu, objective plus descriptive writing.
No textbook is prescribed by the Board.
Eligibility Criteria
Degree: any degree from a university set up by a Central or State Act, or a UGC-recognised institution, held on 29 July 2026. A distance degree must be recognised by UGC, AICTE or the Distance Education Council, and proving that is up to you. A Station Fire Officer also needs a valid light motor vehicle licence.
Gender: men and women for codes 11, 12, 16, 17; men only for 13, 14, 18; women only for 19.
Age: 21 to 25 as on 1 July 2026, with 7 extra years from two government orders (5 in May, 2 in August 2026). That makes 32 for general candidates. Further relaxation: 5 years for SC, ST, BC and EWS; length of service (up to 5) for Telangana Government staff; 3 years plus service for ex-servicemen and NCC instructors. The online form does not check age, so check it yourself. Name and date of birth come from the SSC certificate only.
Health: 6/6 distant and 0/5 near vision in each eye, no colour blindness or squint, and none of the listed defects such as flat foot, knock-knees or varicose veins.
Selection Process
- Preliminary Written Test
- Physical Measurement and Efficiency Tests
- Final Written Examination, four papers
- Certificate verification, then antecedents and medical checks
Run first, then height, then long jump and shot put. Men run 1,600 m in 7:15 (ex-servicemen 9:30), women 800 m in 5:20. Height: 167.6 cm for men and 152.5 cm for women; 160 and 150 cm for Scheduled Tribe candidates from the listed Agency districts. Long jump is 4 m for men (3.5 m ex-servicemen) and 2.5 m for women; shot put 6 m (7.26 kg) and 4 m (4 kg). No chest measurement is notified.
For Sub Inspector (Civil), Station Fire Officer and Deputy Jailor the run only qualifies. Merit is the total of Papers III and IV, 400 marks. For codes 12, 13, 14 and 16 the run is scored out of 100 and added to the merit. For 12 and 16 those scores are normalised first. A tie goes to the older candidate. For SI Civil, 95 per cent of seats in each of the seven zones go to locals of that zone.
| Zone | SI Civil seats |

| Kaleshwaram | 15 |
| Basara | 29 |
| Rajanna | 32 |
| Bhadradri | 33 |

Salary
Pay scale for Sub Inspector and Reserve Sub Inspector is ₹42,300 to ₹1,15,270. The Board’s press note puts the starting annual salary with house rent allowance at about ₹7,33,990 to ₹7,99,980 in the Police and SPF. Station Fire Officer and Deputy Jailor are on ₹38,890 to ₹1,12,510. A stipend, set by the Government and not stated in the notification, is paid during institutional training. The Contributory Pension Scheme applies to those appointed after 1 September 2004.
How to Apply
Applications were online only, on tgprb.in, and the window is closed. The one-time fee was ₹750 for SC and ST candidates of Telangana and ₹1,500 for everyone else. It covers every stage from the preliminary to certificate verification. Applying for more than one type of post earns ₹100 off each extra (₹50 for SC and ST), because the physical test is held once.
The form had two parts: Part I with a photo and signature, and Part II with documents for those who pass the preliminary. Aadhaar face authentication was part of Part I; the Board said 97.4 per cent finished it, and the rest can complete it in their login till 30 September 2026.
Important Dates
| Event | Date |
|---|---|
| Notification | 29 July 2026 |

| Applications closed | 16 September 2026, 5 p.m. (first set for 9 September) |

The Board expects about 1.6 lakh SI-level applications; the test is planned at the ten older district headquarters. Hall ticket and physical test dates are not out yet. Watch the official notices page.
Preparation Tips
Papers I and II decide who even gets looked at, so treat the English and Telugu or Urdu writing as seriously as the objective papers: precis, letters, essays and comprehension. Practise arithmetic against the clock, because a wrong answer in the preliminary costs a fifth of its marks. Read Telangana movement history from 1948 to 2014 as a topic of its own.
