Eligibility Criteria

Each notification sets its own age and qualification rules, but a few apply across almost every exam:

  • Tamil. You must know Tamil on the notification date, shown by SSLC or higher with Tamil as a language, Tamil-medium schooling, or the Commission's Second Class Language Test. Without proof, you must pass that test within two years of appointment or lose the job.
  • Tamil Eligibility Test. Most exams include a Tamil paper at SSLC level with a pass mark of 40 percent. If you miss it, your other papers are not evaluated.
  • Service bar. Candidates outside the reserved communities who have already served five years in central or state government cannot apply.
  • Age. Reserved communities (SC, SC(A), ST, MBC/DC, BC, BCM) get relaxed or no upper limits, and persons with disabilities ten extra years.
How to Apply

All applications are online, on the TNPSC apply portal. Register once through One Time Registration (₹150, valid five years), then apply for each exam separately. Exam fees are usually ₹100, with more for main exams. Some categories get free chances. After the last date a three-day correction window opens; after that nothing can be changed. Read the standing Instructions to Applicants with each notification.
