The current cycle is the detailed advertisement, Ref. HO:HRM:REC:AO:1:2026 dated 07.09.2026.

Generalists and Hindi Officers share a Preliminary, then sit different Mains. You can apply for only one; applying or appearing for both cancels your candidature. Serving UIIC Administrative Officers (Scale I) can't apply.
The vacancies are mostly in the Western and Southern zones, with a first posting of at least five years and no transfer requests. There's a five-year bond.
UIIC warns that it never asks for money beyond the application fee. Ignore anyone who does, and rely only on its official website.

The descriptive counts for Hindi Officers, not for Generalists. A Generalist must qualify it, then its marks are dropped. Both streams carry 250 counted written marks into the 75:25 merit; a Hindi Officer earns 50 of them by writing and translating. Hindi typing uses the Inscript or Remington (GAIL) keyboard.
Marking
- A wrong answer loses one fourth of that question's marks, at both tiers. Blanks cost nothing. Because Mains questions carry different marks, a wrong answer costs 0.3 in Generalist Reasoning, 0.375 in General Awareness and 0.25 in Computer Knowledge.
- There's a sectional cut-off in every section and an overall cut-off per category, both set by UIIC.
- Scores from different sessions are equated and reported to two decimals.
- Ties go to the older candidate, with no second criterion.
Syllabus
UIIC doesn't publish a topic syllabus. The detailed advertisement fixes each test's name, questions, marks and timing (see Exam Pattern), and names the content of only one paper: the Hindi Officers' Professional Knowledge test, covering Hindi and English grammar and vocabulary, the Act and Rules on Official Language implementation, and translation English to Hindi and Hindi to English.
Generalists face General Awareness with special reference to the Financial Sector. Hindi Officers have no Quantitative Aptitude paper at the Mains.
Eligibility Criteria
Everything is reckoned on 30.06.2026. If your final-year result comes out after that date, you can't apply.

Result
Results for each stage and the final merit list go up on the recruitment page, under Careers, Recruitment. No cut-offs are published in advance, and there's no fixed shortlist ratio.
Cut Off
UIIC hasn't published cut-off marks for this recruitment. Sectional and overall cut-offs at both tiers, and the descriptive cut-off, are decided by the Company and announced, if at all, with each stage's result on the recruitment page. The only fixed figures are the 75:25 weighting and the one-fourth penalty. The Generalist (200 posts) and Hindi Officer (25 posts) streams have separate cut-offs.
Preparation Tips
- Pick your discipline first. After the shared Preliminary the papers are completely different.
- Clear every section. There's a sectional cut-off in each, so you can't abandon a weak one.
- Watch the clock. The Preliminary gives about 34 seconds a question in Reasoning and Quant (40 in English). Hindi Officers get 24 seconds a question in General Awareness and Computer Knowledge; Generalist Mains sections run 30 to 48 seconds.
- Don't guess freely. A quarter of the question's marks goes for each wrong answer.
- Generalists: build General Awareness around the financial sector; it's 60 counted marks and isn't in the Preliminary. Pass the descriptive, but it won't add to your score.
- Hindi Officers: 150 of your 250 counted marks are language and translation. Practise typing Hindi on Inscript or Remington (GAIL); 50 marks are typed in 60 minutes.
- Treat the interview as a quarter of the result.
- Check your percentage the way UIIC will (59.99 is below 60), and get your CGPA conversion certificate early.
- Read the posting and bond terms before applying.
Sample Papers
UIIC doesn't publish sample or previous year papers for the AO exam. The detailed advertisement (seventeen pages) is the only official guide to the pattern. Earlier AO recruitments of 2024 and 2023 are listed under Careers, Recruitment.
