UP police programmer Grade 2 Syllabus, Exam Pattern
126 topics across 4 subjects. Every question carries a written explanation.
Programmer Grade-2 is a non-gazetted post in the UP Police computer cadre, filled by the Uttar Pradesh Police Recruitment and Promotion Board. It is a technical post, so the paper tests computing, not general policing subjects.
The Board's only direct recruitment listing in October 2026 is "Programmer Grade-2, 2023": 55 posts, last date 31 January 2024. No newer advertisement is open.

Exam Pattern
| Part | Subject | Marks |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Mental ability, reasoning and information technology | 100 |
| 2 | Computer programming | 100 |
Total 200 marks, objective type. A candidate needs 40 per cent (80 marks) to enter the merit list. The rules fix the level at the minimum educational qualification for the post.
Syllabus
The Board has not published a detailed syllabus in the rules. They name only the two parts above. The advertisement for the cycle carries any further detail.
Eligibility Criteria
These come from the Police Computer Staff service rules of 2011, so they may have been amended since. The advertisement is final.
- Education: a bachelor's degree plus a DOEACC "A" level certificate in computers, or a science degree in computer science, information technology or electronics together with a postgraduate diploma in computer applications (PGDCA), or the equivalent recognised qualification.
- Age: 21 to 30 years on 1 July of the recruitment year, with the usual relaxations for reserved categories.
- Extra credit: if marks are equal, the Board puts first a candidate with a DOEACC O-level certificate, two years in the Territorial Army, an NCC B certificate, or a hardware and networking course from a recognised institute.
Selection Process
Direct recruitment is a single written exam. The Board checks applications, calls eligible candidates for the paper, and builds a merit list from marks, with the extra credit above used only to break ties. If marks and credit are still equal, the older candidate goes first. Half the Programmer Grade-2 posts are filled by promotion from Computer Operator Grade-C, so the direct recruitment quota is 50 per cent.
How to Apply
Applications are online through the Board's website, and the advertisement states the fee and last date. The 2023 listing gave 31 January 2024 as the last date.
Important Dates
For the 2023 recruitment, applications closed on 31 January 2024. The Board has not posted anything newer. The next advertisement will appear on the Direct Recruitment page, and the Board has no fixed calendar for this post.
Cut Off
No cut-off for the 2023 recruitment could be found on the Board's site. The only fixed line is the 40 per cent minimum in the rules.
Preparation Tips
Spend the programming half on the basics of a language such as C or C++, data structures and databases, and treat the first half as quick scoring through reasoning practice. The 100 marks for each part are equal, so neither can be skipped.
