CG Forest Guard Syllabus, Exam Pattern, Eligibility
145 topics across 6 subjects. Every question carries a written explanation.
Van Rakshak (Forest Guard) is a Class III field post in the Chhattisgarh Forest and Climate Change Department. The department advertises and runs the physical tests itself, through its forest divisions. The written exam is set by the state exam board, which was Vyapam until 2026 and is now the Chhattisgarh Karmchari Chayan Mandal (CGSSB).
The current cycle is the recruitment for 1,484 posts, first advertised in May 2023 and reopened for applications in June 2024. The physical tests are over and 16,764 candidates have been called to the written exam, which CGSSB has fixed for 13 December 2026 in Raipur. Registration on the CGSSB portal runs from 30 September to 26 October 2026.
An earlier round for 151 posts had its written paper (FDFG24) on 22 September 2024.

The merit list adds the PET, the written score and up to 10 bonus marks (5 for an NCC C certificate with at least B grade, 5 for a first-three finish or a team win in a national-level event of an Olympic or Asian Games sport), so the total is out of 200 plus bonus. How to Apply
Applications for the recruitment itself are taken by the forest department on its own portal. Only candidates who clear the PET then register with the exam board for the written paper, using the application ID and date of birth the department gave them. For the 13 December 2026 paper that step is on cgssb.cgstate.gov.in from 30 September to 26 October 2026, 5 pm. Miss it and you cannot sit the exam.
The exam fee is paid online; Chhattisgarh residents who turn up for the exam get it refunded to the same bank account.

Preparation Tips
- The PET carries as many marks as the written paper, so train for the runs and jumps as seriously as the books.
- Chhattisgarh GK and the Chhattisgarhi language section together make up a big share of the paper. Locals who read the language have an edge here.
- Maths and science are at Class 10 level; school textbooks of the state board are enough.
- The FDFG24 paper and its answer key are on the board site and show the level well.
