Inflammation of conjunctiva of the eyes is known as:
RSMSSB - 2025, Rajasthan ANM - 2025,
Answer: A
It is called conjunctivitis.
The suffix -itis means inflammation, so conjunctivitis is inflammation of the conjunctiva, the thin membrane covering the white of the eye and the inside of the eyelids. It makes the eye red, watery and itchy and may be caused by infection, allergy or irritants.
A pale conjunctiva is a sign of anaemia, not inflammation. 'Conjunctival infection' names one possible cause rather than the condition. Conjunctival xerosis is dryness of the conjunctiva due to vitamin A deficiency.
