Technology Questions and Answers

Answer: A

An example of augmented reality is Google Glass.

Google Glass is a head-mounted display that overlays information, such as directions and messages, on the wearer's view of the real world, which is what augmented reality means.

Virtual reality games replace the real world rather than augmenting it, blockchain ledgers are a data technology, and autonomous robots are machines that act on their own.

Answer: A

The concept related to pooling and sharing of resources is (iii) only, virtualization.

Virtualization lets one physical server, store or network be divided into many virtual machines and resources that can be pooled and allotted to different users on demand. That is the basis of the resource pooling that cloud computing provides.

Virtual memory is an operating system technique that gives each process the illusion of a large private memory on one machine, and 'service' is a delivery model, so neither is the concept of pooling and sharing.

Answer: B

The one not provided as a cloud service is Architecture as a service.

The three standard cloud service models are Infrastructure as a Service (virtual machines, storage, networks), Platform as a Service (runtime and development platforms) and Software as a Service (complete applications over the internet).

'Architecture as a service' is not one of the recognised service models.

Answer: C

It is called Cloud bursting.

In cloud bursting an application normally runs in a private data centre and, when demand spikes beyond its capacity, 'bursts' into a public cloud, renting extra capacity only for as long as it is needed.

Cloud computing is the general model, not this particular practice, and 'cloud sharing' and 'cloud loading' are not the term used for renting spare capacity during load spikes.

Answer: D

The keyed answer is PaaS.

The wording 'most refined and restrictive service model' is taken from a standard cloud computing quiz, where it is attached to Platform as a Service. A PaaS customer must work inside a fixed platform (the operating system, runtime and tools are chosen by the provider) and can deploy only applications that fit it.

IaaS gives the customer the virtual hardware and the most freedom, so it is the least restrictive. CaaS gives containers on a managed engine, which is looser than a full platform. SaaS is the one that leaves the customer with least control if 'restrictive' means how little the user can change, so a reader could defend it; but SaaS is a finished application rather than a model for building one, which is the sense the key follows.

Answer: B

The most non-polluting and efficient lighting device is the LED.

A light-emitting diode converts a much larger share of electrical energy into light than older lamps, uses less power than a CFL for the same light, lasts far longer, and contains no mercury.

CFLs and other fluorescent lights work by exciting mercury vapour, so they contain mercury, which pollutes when lamps are broken or discarded, and they are less efficient than LEDs.

Answer: A

Bluetooth is good for about 30 feet.

Most Bluetooth devices, such as phones and headsets, are Class 2 radios with a range of about 10 metres, which is roughly 33 feet. It is a short-range personal-area network operating at 2.4 GHz.

30 yards is about 27 metres, three times the usual range, and 30 or 300 miles are distances for cellular or broadcast systems, not for Bluetooth.

Answer: C

EDUSAT was launched in September, 2004.

EDUSAT (GSAT-3), India's first satellite built exclusively for education, was launched on 20 September 2004 by the GSLV from Sriharikota. It provided satellite links for distance education across the country.

The other dates do not match the launch.

The launch was also the first operational flight of the GSLV, after two developmental flights.

Answer: B

The 'Workhorse of ISRO' is the PSLV.

The Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle has flown dozens of successful missions since the 1990s, carrying Chandrayaan-1, the Mars Orbiter Mission and a record 104 satellites in one launch in 2017. Its reliability earned it the name ISRO's workhorse.

GSLV is used for heavier geosynchronous satellites, while ASLV and the early SLV series were older experimental vehicles.

Answer: B

The AutoContent Wizard has three steps between Start and Finish.

It asked for the type of presentation, the output medium and the title and footer, then generated an outline with suggested content. It was removed after PowerPoint 2003.
