What is the 'fibre' used to make bulletproof jackets?
BPSC Exam - 2023, BPSC CDPO - 2023,
Answer: D
Bulletproof jackets are made with Kevlar.
Kevlar, an aramid (aromatic polyamide) fibre developed by Stephanie Kwolek at DuPont in 1965, is about five times stronger than steel by weight. Layers of Kevlar fabric absorb and spread the energy of a bullet, which is why it is used in body armour and helmets.
Nylon and Terylene (polyester) are synthetic fibres used in clothing, ropes and fabrics but are far too weak to stop bullets. Tweed is a woollen fabric.
