Computer Internet Questions and Answers

Answer: D

The one that is not a web browser is Yahoo.

Yahoo is a web portal and search engine offering email, news and search; it is a website you open in a browser, not a program for viewing websites.

Internet Explorer (Microsoft), Mozilla Firefox and Google Chrome are all web browsers: applications that fetch web pages and display them. The common confusion is between a search engine or portal and the browser used to reach it.

Answer: D

The one not related to social networking is eBay.

eBay is an online marketplace for buying and selling goods, an e-commerce platform, not a social network.

The other three are social networking platforms: Threads is Meta's text-based social app launched in 2023, LinkedIn is a professional networking site, and Instagram is a photo and video sharing network.

Answer: D

A user can not save received emails in the "sent" folder.

The Sent folder holds copies of messages the user has sent. Received mail arrives in the Inbox and can be moved to user folders or archives, but the Sent folder is reserved for outgoing mail.

The other actions are routine email functions. Files can be attached to a message, unfinished messages can be saved as drafts, and a blind carbon copy (BCC) sends a copy to recipients whose addresses are hidden from the others.

Answer: A

The word or phrase typed into a search box is a keyword.

The search engine matches the keywords (together, the search query) against its index of web pages and returns the most relevant results.

A homepage is the main or starting page of a website. An address or web address (URL) is typed into the browser's address bar to go straight to a particular page, which is different from searching for pages about a topic.

Answer: C

The operator is AND.

In a search, AND combines terms so that only results containing all of them are returned: 'diet AND pregnancy' gives pages with both words. Each extra term narrows the search.

OR broadens the search, returning results with any of the terms. Quotation marks search for an exact phrase in a fixed order, which is stricter than containing all the words anywhere. Dots are not a keyword operator: search engines use two dots between numbers to ask for a range, such as years, not to combine words.

Answer: D

The Assertion is false, but the Reason is true.

Software-as-a-Service delivers applications over the internet. The provider hosts, installs, maintains and updates the software, and the user simply opens it in a browser, as with web email or online office suites. So the Reason, that SaaS gives on-demand access without installation or configuration by the user, is true.

That same fact makes the Assertion false: SaaS does not require users to install and configure the applications. Since the Assertion is false, every option calling it true is wrong.

Answer: B

https indicates a secure website.

HTTPS stands for HyperText Transfer Protocol Secure. The connection between the browser and the server is encrypted with TLS, and the server proves its identity with a certificate, so passwords and payment details cannot be read in transit.

The protocol says nothing about the site's speed, whether it carries multimedia, or whether it is designed for mobile phones. Those are properties of the site's hosting and design, and a plain http site can have any of them.

Answer: B

A web browser's primary function is to display webpages and access resources on the www.

A browser such as Chrome, Firefox or Edge requests pages from web servers using HTTP or HTTPS, interprets the HTML, CSS and JavaScript it receives, and displays the result, with links to move between resources on the World Wide Web.

Network connections are managed by the operating system and its network settings, not by the browser. A browser can cache pages, but storing pages locally is a side feature, not its purpose. Multimedia content is created with editing software, and the browser only plays it.

Answer: D

The professional networking site is LinkedIn.

LinkedIn, launched in 2003, is built around professional profiles, job histories and business contacts, and is used for recruitment and career networking.

Facebook and MySpace are general social networks for friends and personal sharing, and Twitter is a microblogging service.

Users on LinkedIn list their education, skills and work experience, connect with colleagues, and employers use it to advertise jobs and search for candidates.

Answer: D

Correct answer: Transferring data from a remote server to your own device

Downloading is transferring data from a remote computer to your own; uploading is the reverse. The direction is defined from the user’s point of view. The distinction matters practically because most consumer connections are asymmetric: download speeds are far higher than upload speeds, on the reasoning that people consume more than they publish. That is why sending a large attachment or backing up to the cloud takes disproportionately long, and why video calls, which need upload capacity, suffer on a connection that downloads perfectly well. The terms come from the era of mainframes, where a central machine was thought of as being above the terminals attached to it - data came down from it and went up to it. Streaming is a particular kind of downloading in which the content is played as it arrives rather than stored complete before use.
