State News Questions and Answers

Answer: C

The mart was held from 22nd to 24th November, 2018.

The Ministry of Tourism organises the International Tourism Mart (ITM) every year in one of the north-eastern states to showcase the region to foreign and Indian tour operators. The seventh edition was the first to be held in Tripura: it opened in Agartala on 22 November 2018 and ran for three days with the state government as co-host.

The other three ranges are each a day or more off those dates, so they do not match the event.

Answer: C

Notun Disha is associated with the Education Department.

Notun Disha ('new direction') is a programme of Tripura's school education department to assess and raise the basic learning levels of elementary school students. It began with a baseline assessment of pupils from Class III to Class VIII in February 2019, which found large gaps in reading and arithmetic, and it trains teachers to close those gaps.

It is not a scheme of the revenue, rural development or health departments; it concerns classroom learning in government schools.

Answer: B

Among the states offered, the highest is West Bengal.

The National Family Health Survey 2015-16 (NFHS-4) measured child marriage as the share of women aged 20-24 who had married before 18. West Bengal stood at 41.6%, roughly four in ten, one of the highest rates in the country, and Tripura was also among the high-prevalence states.

Strictly, NFHS-4 put Bihar (42.5%) just ahead of West Bengal, but Bihar is not an option, so of the four West Bengal is the one at the top. Jharkhand came next at 37.9%, and Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh were lower still.

The first Hornbill festival in Tripura was inaugurated on 8th February, 2020.

Tripura held its first two-day Hornbill festival at the Baramura eco-park in West Tripura, inaugurated by Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb, to raise awareness of bird conservation and the state's biodiversity and to promote tourism.

The 2021 dates are a year too late, and 9 January in either year is not the date of the inauguration. The better-known Hornbill Festival of Nagaland is held in December.

The state is Kerala.

The 'I am also digital' campaign was launched by the Kerala State Literacy Mission with the Kerala State IT Mission in 2020 to teach basic digital skills to people across the state, beginning with a pilot in the Thiruvananthapuram city corporation.

Odisha, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu did not launch a programme with this title.

The aim was to make every household digitally literate, building on Kerala's earlier achievement of being declared a fully literate state in 1991.

The centre is at the National Institute of Technology (NIT), Agartala.

ISRO set up its first Space Technology Incubation Centre at NIT Agartala in 2019 to help students and young entrepreneurs develop space-related applications and start-ups in the northeast.

The Tripura Institute of Technology, the Dharmanagar degree college and MBB College in Agartala were not chosen for the centre.

The state is Madhya Pradesh.

In May 2020 the Madhya Pradesh government amended its Mandi Act to allow private mandis and the purchase of produce directly from farmers outside the regulated markets, so that farmers could sell to whoever offered the best price.

Punjab, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu were not the state referred to in this amendment.

It came in the same year as the Centre's ordinances allowing farmers to sell outside regulated APMC markets.

Answer: A

The High Court of Tripura was founded on 23rd March, 2013.

Before 2013 Tripura was served by a bench of the Gauhati High Court. The North-Eastern Areas (Reorganisation) and Other Related Laws (Amendment) Act, 2012 provided separate High Courts for Tripura, Manipur and Meghalaya, and all three began functioning on 23 March 2013.

The other dates keep the same day and month but change the year: 2012 is the year the enabling Act was passed, not the year the court opened, and 2014 and 2015 are too late.

Answer: B

The first woman Governor of Tripura was Kamla Beniwal.

Kamla Beniwal, a Congress leader from Rajasthan, was appointed Governor of Tripura in 2009 and later served as Governor of Gujarat and Mizoram.

Najma Heptulla was Governor of Manipur, and Kiran Bedi was appointed Lieutenant Governor of Puducherry in 2016; neither held Tripura. Since one option is correct, 'None of them' is wrong.
