UP CNET Post Basic BSc Nursing Syllabus, Exam Pattern

244 topics across 15 subjects. Every question carries a written explanation.

UP CNET Post Basic B.Sc. Nursing is the Common Nursing Entrance Test paper for the two year Post Basic B.Sc. Nursing course in Uttar Pradesh, run by Atal Bihari Vajpayee Medical University (ABVMU), CG City, Sultanpur Road, Lucknow. For 2026-27 every admission goes through CNET; there's no direct admission. (It's Common, not Combined, in all the university's documents.)

This paper is for people who are already nurses: you need a General Nursing and Midwifery (GNM) certificate and R.N.R.M. registration with the Uttar Pradesh Nurses and Midwives Council. The paper tests the GNM course you've already done.

On the day

  • Report at 9:00 AM. Biometric capture at the gate is compulsory; no capture, no entry.
  • No entry after 10:15 AM. Nobody leaves before the end.
  • Hand in the question booklet with both the original OMR sheet and the office copy. Keeping any of them counts as unfair means.
  • Bring only the admit card and a valid ID. Everyone is frisked and there's nowhere to leave belongings.

Barred: printed or written material, paper, geometry or pencil box, plastic pouch, calculator, pen, scale, writing pad, pen drive, eraser, log table, electronic pen or scanner; mobile phone, Bluetooth, earphones, microphone, pager, health band; wallet, goggles, handbag, belt, cap; any watch, bracelet or camera; any ornament or metal item; food and water bottles. The list isn't exhaustive.

Any of the seventeen listed unfair means (from a barred item to impersonation, tearing or removing the OMR sheet, a morphed photo, or tampering with a response sheet uploaded for challenge) gets you debarred for three years, your result cancelled, and possibly prosecuted. A result is also cancelled for sitting at the wrong centre or writing on someone else's booklet. The university's public notice of 2 June 2026 cites the Information Technology Act 2000, the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita 2023 and the Uttar Pradesh Public Examination (Prevention of Unfair Means) Act 2024.

Syllabus

The bulletin gives it in one line: subjects of General Nursing and Midwifery (GNM) course level, broken into three sections. There's no chapter list beyond the subject names.

SectionMarksSubjectsMarks per subject
A66Medical Surgical Nursing; Community Health Nursing; Mental Health Nursing; Child Health Nursing; Midwifery and Gynaecological Nursingabout 13
B36Bio Sciences: Anatomy and Physiology, Microbiology. Nursing Foundations: Fundamentals of Nursing, First Aid. Behavioural Sciences: Psychology, Sociologyabout 6
C18Computer Education; English; Nursing Education; Introduction to Research and Statistics; Professional Trends and Adjustments; Nursing Administration and Ward Managementabout 3

Section A is the clinical specialities; Section B is the first-year foundation material. A Section A subject is worth about four times a Section C one.

There's no Physics, Chemistry or Biology as school subjects and no Nursing Aptitude block. Those belong to the four year paper. English is just one of six Section C subjects here, but the whole paper is in English.

Eligibility Criteria

Age

At least 17 on or before 31 December 2026. No upper limit.

Qualification (Indian Nursing Council rules)

  1. Passed Class 12 (10+2) or an equivalent the university recognises. 10+1 completed in or before 1986 also counts.
  2. A GNM certificate and registration as R.N.R.M. with the Uttar Pradesh Nurses and Midwives Council. Another state's council won't do.
  3. Colour blind candidates are eligible with corrective lenses or glasses.
  4. Medical fitness, certified before joining.

Male nurses trained before the integrated course

Besides state registration, you need INC-approved training of similar length in lieu of midwifery in one of:

Domicile, for government colleges

Any one of: a UP domicile certificate; Class 10 and 12 both passed in UP; or a GNM from a recognised UP school or college. That third route exists only for this course, so a nurse who trained in UP qualifies whatever board they schooled under. Private colleges take candidates from other states too. Only Indian citizens can apply.

Reservation and certificates

  • UP state policy, within the seats sanctioned by the INC and the state.
  • EWS: 10 per cent.
  • PwD: 5 per cent horizontal, only for locomotor disability of 40 to 50 per cent of the lower extremity (Gazette of India No. 275 of 5 July 2021), checked by a government medical board with a nursing expert on it.
  • Caste and EWS certificates from a UP Tehsildar or SDM, verifiable online.
  • OBC and EWS certificates must be issued on or after 1 April 2026. Older ones aren't accepted.
  • Freedom fighter dependants need a DM's certificate. For the NCC sub-quota only a C certificate with grade B counts; A and B certificates don't.
Selection Process
  1. Apply online, 28 March to 20 May 2026. Corrections 13 to 20 May.
  2. Admit card from 30 May 2026.
  3. Exam, 6 June 2026.

Allotment is strictly on merit and your locked choices. Fill as many as you can, and check each college's fees, hostel, transport and INC recognition in the seat matrix first. Details are in the counselling bulletin.

Salary

College offices stay open every day, holidays included, during counselling. The four year course shares every date up to the result, then opens counselling on 14 June and runs a Round 2 (6 to 11 July), with its resignation window on 24 to 27 July and mop-up registration 28 to 31 July, ending 5 August.

Admit Card

Download it from 30 May 2026 on abvmuup.edu.in with your registration ID and password. Print it in colour; a digital copy isn't accepted. It isn't posted and no duplicate is issued at the centre. Don't alter it, and keep it for counselling.

An admit card doesn't confirm eligibility. Your GNM, council registration and other documents are checked at the allotted college.

Result

The 2026 result came out on 13 June 2026, a week after the exam, on the university website, as a combined and a category-wise merit list. Seat matrices appear inside the counselling portal for each round.

The Vice Chancellor's decision is final in disputes; legal cases go only to the Lucknow courts and the Allahabad High Court, Lucknow Bench. If the English and Hindi bulletins differ, the English one wins.

Cut Off

ABVMU publishes no cut-off marks or closing ranks for this course. The Information Bulletin lists "Minimum Qualifying Marks" in its index (item seven of section 7, page 2) but the exam section on pages 14 to 16 doesn't give any, and nor does the counselling bulletin. The four year bulletin's percentiles of 50, 45 and 40 apply to that paper, not this one.

The seat matrix in the counselling portal, republished after the resignation window, is the only official guide to what a rank can get.

Preparation Tips
  • Revise your own GNM course. That's the whole syllabus. Your diploma notes, textbooks and GNM papers from your own school or council are the closest practice material.
  • Split time by marks, not subjects. Roughly eleven parts Section A to six parts B to three parts C. Section A is also the first tie-break.
  • Don't skip Section C. Eighteen marks is a sixth of the paper.
  • Answer all 120. No negative marking, so keep the last two minutes to fill in blanks.
  • Practise in English if you trained in Hindi. At about seventy seconds a question there's no time to translate.
  • Practise on an OMR sheet. Darkening circles takes time.
  • Sort your paperwork early: UP council registration, fresh OBC or EWS certificates, domicile proof.
  • Plan the money and the leave. Rs 5,500 at counselling registration, Rs 40,000 soon after allotment, and in-person reporting in July and August.
  • Ignore anyone selling the paper. Report it to the university or the cybercrime helpline on 1930.
Sample Papers

No previous CNET papers or answer keys are available. ABVMU doesn't publish them.

The Information Bulletin (and its Hindi version) sets out the full pattern. Bulletins for the next cycle appear on abvmucet26.co.in around March, when applications open.
